25 Holiday Questions (aka I copied KathyHowe on this one)

She did it first. Well, maybe not first. She did it before I did though. And it sounded fun, and easy, perfect for a Monday post. Our answers are decidedly different, however.

  1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper. Though we’ve had to (mostly) give up bows and curled ribbon, because the cats, devils that they are, insist on eating it. Constantly. Anything plastic. They are so strange.
  2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial, and you know why? Ours is pre-lit, which is a miracle and saves us from having to do the most horrible part of Christmas decorating.
  3. When do you put up the tree? Preferably the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. If necessary, the weekend after that, but no later (otherwise, why bother?).
  4. When do you take the tree down? A week to 10 days after Christmas, depending on how I feel, and where the holiday falls (on a weekend, mid-week, etc).
  5. Do you like eggnog? Absolutely. I know, I know, it’s totally gross and so bad for me, but so delicious!
  6. Favorite gift received as a child? I don’t know. I don’t remember most of my gifts. That’s not to say they weren’t wonderful, but that I have a really bad memory.
  7. Hardest person to buy for? , hands-down, because even though he’d be happy with whatever we got him, he never has any suggestions for himself (this year was an exception – he asked for socks, and a donation to Susan G Komen), and doesn’t need anything either.
  8. Easiest person to buy for? . I don’t know why, but I always have about 20 ideas for her, year-round.
  9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, two (I could swear I had more, but I only found two this year).
  10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Um, sadly, neither. I really wanted to send out photo cards last year, and didn’t. Same this year. I fear its getting too late, and we don’t have a picture taken, and all the sunlight is gone most of the time, so… yeah.
  11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A red puffy-painted sweatsuit when I was 12, from my Grandma. It was promptly returned to the store (some chain that went out of business ages ago but started with a Z and had white and black diagonal stripes on the out of their store – any ideas what that was?) and exchanged for an Elvis shirt. I was still a big dork, but at least not teased mercilessly.
  12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I have to pick? I love so many of them! Love Actually, While You Were Sleeping, Elf, You’ve Got Mail (OK, not a Christmas movie, but it’s got a significant Christmas-time portion to it)….
  13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Whenever I have ideas, which usually isn’t until around Thanksgiving.
  14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No, but I am this year (the coffee that came with my doll quilt, which was sanctioned from the gift-giver). I have, however, given them directly to , traded with her, or sent them right to Goodwill.
  15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? I don’t know. Cookies?
  16. Lights on the tree? White.
  17. Favorite Christmas song? All of them. OK, not really, but you can’t actually expect me to pick one favorite out of the 472 Christmas songs I own.
  18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Both. We’re trying to switch off, since and his family are in Illinois, but the rest of my family and all of ‘s are here. It’s only fair.
  19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? Yes, especially since I just embroidered them all. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph. That’s 9.
  20. Angel on the tree-top or a star? Neither, actually. Preferably a star, though. I used to own an angel, and they’re terrible to try to get up there. Stars are pretty.
  21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? In the morning (though any family functions that take place on Christmas Eve are exempt from this preference).
  22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? How the stores start it mid-October – I love Christmas, but I don’t want to hear Carols before Thanksgiving.
  23. Favorite ornament theme or color? White and gold stars, or red with white snowflakes. Boo on Santa Claus.
  24. Favorite food for Christmas dinner? Turkey, I think. Christmas dinner has been very eclectic in my family, since Christmas Eve was so… traditional and the same, every year. This year, I’m going to make Christmas dinner for us, , and ‘s dad and brother, and I have absolutely no idea what to make. I’m completely stumped.
  25. What do you want for Christmas this year?  A year of health for everyone I love (OK, for those I just merely tolerate as well).
