Not bad, not bad

Looking for the weekend update? Well…

Weekend Goals

I did not get around to priming the night stand, though we did stop in at Home Depot and buy primer. Instead, I spent some time filling in some of the cracks and gaps so that I can prime at a later date. Maybe this week. Hopefully. I also didn’t get a single stitch of knitting done. I know! And I only got one batch of cookies finished. On Sunday I’d planned to make up the dough for sugar cookies, but wasn’t planning on baking them until later in the week (the recipe I found said it kept for up to a week, but since my primary target was Easter Sunday, that seemed like I was guaranteeing my cookies to be not very good, so waiting would be prudent). However, by 9pm, I realized that I had not set out the butter to get to room temperature, so that dough didn’t get made up. Tonight, I hope. I also did not do as much studying for today’s exam as I would have liked to, but I stopped caring. I also stopped being able to make sense out of what I was reading, so I figured it wasn’t worth wasting my time. I have a perfect grade in that class, so I’m not going to worry about it. Really.

I did, however, go to the gym on Saturday and get our billing problem figured out (as in, we were getting charged too much, and as it turns out, it’s because my health insurance info wasn’t getting processed, but luckily they can re-submit, so next month we should have a nice hefty credit). We went to “Dancing for Weddings” at the Eagan Community Center, which is a 6-week class. It wasn’t nearly as horrible as I thought it might be. I also vacuumed and did lots of cooking. In case you were wondering, here’s my eval of the recipes I’d recently linked to:

  • Rich No-Cream Wild Mushroom Pasta would probably have been better if it were possible to find wild mushrooms in Eagan. We had to make do with the portabellas only. Plus, I got overzealous with the salt at the end, and that was just bad. Maybe I’ll try again, but probably not.
  • Whole Wheat Pita Bread turned out yummy, though not fully pocketed. We will definitely make again, because warm pitas are heavenly. I used regular flour, not bread flour, because at the time I couldn’t justify buying the 5 or 10 pound bag that they sold (no smaller bags?) for one recipe, when we already had two other types of flour in the house. has suggested a local place where I might be able to find flour in bulk (and thus only buy a few cups), or I may just have to go to the co-op like I used to one of these Tuesday nights.
  • Pork Verde was… eh. Not bad, but unimpressive. Perhaps a better salsa verde would have made a difference (I suspect it would be), but there was only one choice at Cub.

Plus, I also got the following accomplished:

Bonus!

If you wanted to know exactly what the above means…

  • The weather was awesome this weekend, so I opened up some windows and got some fresh air circulating in the house.
  • I gathered the remaining winter decorations up to be put in storage, but didn’t get them into a box.
  • Wood filler, usage mentioned above.
  • Bought two rugs for the kitchen and patio.
  • Installed new doorknobs (OK, mainly did this, but I helped) in 3 of the 4 upstairs doors and the door to the garage (and the heavens opened up and sang “Hallelujah!”)
  • Went to Sam’s Club and once again lamented that they do not sell 7-up. Bought Diet Dr. Pepper instead.
  • Waited patiently for my sewing machine (5-10 days from Friday, so… we’ve got some more waiting to do). Dreamed about what one might do with that. Did not clean off desk in spare bedroom so that it has a home when it arrives.
  • Bought a new shower curtain liner (when I was buying rugs) because the old was had lived there longer than I’d known .
  • Played me some Dr. Mario. A girl’s gotta have a little fun.

And, while looking for graphics for a potential post on this week’s plans, I found this, which amused me:

Where to begin?
