Question of the Week

Which is more important– the actual experience, or the memory that remains of the experience after it is over?

I’m torn on this one. I think the memory is what remains and sticks with us, so ultimately that’s more important. But sometimes our memories can trick us, because I know that my childhood was good, but my memories don’t always reflect that, so I have to remind myself of that. And as time goes on, horrible experiences are significantly dulled, which is good but also makes it harder to explain them to others. The good times also fade a bit, which is just sad.

The actual experience is when we learn and grow and change. The memory is what stays and affects us, albeit on a much smaller scale, for a long time.
